Dr. Varsha Shyam Dawani is a highly accomplished Consultant Psychiatrist based in Ulhasnagar, Thane District. Born on 27th December 1972, she has devoted her career to mental health advocacy, clinical excellence, and academic research spanning over two and a half decades.
She completed her MBBS from P.D.Y. Patil Medical College (Bombay Board, 1994), followed by a Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) from the prestigious G.S.M.C & K.E.M Hospital, Bombay University in 1998. She further obtained her Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Psychiatry from the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi in 1999 — one of India's most rigorous postgraduate qualifications.
As Director of Shewi's Health Care Centre — a licensed hospital for mentally ill patients in Ulhasnagar — and Consultant at Central Hospital and Loving Care De-addiction Centre, she currently serves thousands of patients across Thane district. Her research work as a Research Officer at Seth G.S.M.C & K.E.M Hospital included landmark international collaborations on deliberate self-harm with the Swiss Tropical Institute.
Won for the paper "Psychological Well-being in Elderly: Institutionalised V/S Community Based", presented at the Indian Psychiatric Society – West Zone Branch. Co-authored with Dr. J.S. Apte.
Worked on multiple research projects including an international collaborative project with the Swiss Tropical Institute on deliberate self-harm, a drug abuse survey advised by the Drug Controller of India, and a multi-centric study on Paroxetine in depression.
